Biography
The on-stage chemistry that Rotation displays is genuine: all members grew up together in the small town of Flat Rock, Michigan and even attended the same high school. After years of playing locally in rival bands, the friends wanted to pursue music seriously and dropped their respective projects to band together. "Michigan has got to be one of the most depressing places in America" says Rotation's frontman Andy, "Everyone is out of work, everyone is poor and the people who can afford it are moving away." This bleak, cold backdrop is where the five-piece rock outfit draws their inspiration. With dynamic, thought-provoking lyrics and a heavy-handed approach to their music, the band has fast become a force to be reckoned with in the region. "This definitely isn't California, says guitarist Sonic, "We have to work three times as hard just to survive out here." And with that hard-working, DIY attitude the quintet continues to define itself with larger than life anthems and artistry. With heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics and organic, yet precision production, Rotation pushes the envelope further with each endeavor. Their influences show a unique variety: from NoFx to Morphine, visual artist M.C. Escher to Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas. Rotation has also been taking the extreme sports world by storm. Many recent national DVD releases have used the band’s music- most notably; 'Carpe Diem' 2,3 and 4, the 'Beating The Odds' documentary, 'Alticity 6: Dedication', 'Streets of Chaos' 2 & 3, and the 'Naked RC' series. Some videos have been aired on Fox Sports Net, ESPN2 and played at numerous live extreme sports events. Rotation continues to branch out in their quest to be heard. Their music can be found in a number of commercials aired on Metro Detroit’s Comcast Cable system, local radio and movie theaters. Rotation's latest single 'The Curse of 1990' landed the band 17 wins in a row on Windsor/Detroit's CIMX/ 88.7 FM's nightly listener call-in voting contest The People's Choice. The song was put up against new singles from bands such as Fall Out Boy, Plain White T's, Evanescence, Korn, Tool, The Academy Is, and many others. Rotation not only won but “destroyed” the competing bands according to station's music director Jay Hudson. The band also ranks as the #1 progressive rock band in Michigan on Myspace.com, and is always in the top ten of the Rock and Alternative categories. Rotation also holds the #11 of ALL TIME spot in the Alternative Rock category of Garageband.com with their song “Someone Else's Life”. The band was also recently picked for the 'Top 25 Unsigned Bands of 2007' by Tunelabmusic.com and nominated for 'Best Alternative Rock Band of 2007' by Z98 FM in Sioux City, Iowa. Coupled with packed headlining shows and opening for bands like Sick Puppies, Mayday Parade and Chevelle, Rotation’s genre-bending music continues to grow their already large and dedicated fanbase. With the full length album and video due for release in Spring 2008, the future is sure “spinning” in the right direction for Rotation. www.myspace.com/rotation.
